PDF to Word Converter

Convert PDF to Word with two modes: preserve the original page appearance as high-resolution images, or extract selectable text into editable paragraphs. Your PDF is processed locally in your browser.

Works with text-based and scanned PDFs. Scanned pages are preserved visually in layout mode; their text is not made editable without OCR.

Privacy note

Preserve original layout and Extract editable text (in browser) process the PDF locally in your browser. The server-side editable Word mode uploads the selected PDF to ToolVault’s conversion service for processing and deletes temporary files after conversion. Do not upload confidential documents unless you are comfortable with server processing. Conversion libraries load from third-party CDNs.

Choose Preserve original layout to keep each page visually faithful to the PDF, including branding, typography, headers, footers, tables and page positioning. This mode places a high-resolution image of each PDF page into a Word document. Choose Extract editable text if you need to edit the words directly, understanding that layout and styling may change.

How to convert PDF to Word

Important conversion limits

Preserve original layout mode keeps the appearance by embedding each rendered page as an image; text, logos and other page elements are not individually editable in that mode. Editable text mode extracts text and may not preserve columns, tables, images, fonts, headers, footers or exact positioning. Scanned PDFs can still be preserved visually, but their text is not made editable by OCR. Very large PDFs may require substantial browser memory.

Frequently asked questions

Is the PDF to Word converter free?
Yes. You can use it without creating an account.

Are my documents uploaded?
The selected PDF is processed in your browser and is not sent to ToolVault by this page. Supporting libraries are loaded from third-party CDNs.

Can it convert scanned PDFs?
Not directly. Scanned pages need optical character recognition (OCR) before their text can be extracted.

How do I keep the same layout, logo, header, footer and fonts?
Select Preserve original layout. Each page is inserted as a high-resolution image, so its appearance is retained. The page contents will not be individually editable as Word text.

Can I preserve the layout and edit all text?
Not reliably in one automatic conversion. Exact visual fidelity and fully editable text are different goals; choose the mode that matters most for your document.

Why is the output empty?
The PDF may contain scanned images instead of selectable text, or its text layer may be unsupported. Try selecting and copying text from the PDF in a reader to check whether a text layer exists.
